Education

Dr. Eric Weiss is an attending cardiac surgeon who specializes in general adult cardiac surgery, aortic surgery, valvular heart surgery and the surgical treatment of heart failure. He obtained his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. He completed his general surgery residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore MD and cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at New York Presbyterian Hospital- Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, NY. Dr. Weiss completed further advanced fellowships in heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support at New York Presbyterian Hospital and in advanced aortic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania.

Surgical Focus

His clinical interests focus on the treatment of complex diseases of the thoracic aorta including repair of ascending thoracic aneurysms, aortic valve repair, valve sparing aortic root replacement, hybrid and total arch replacement, minimally invasive aortic surgery and endovascular treatment of thoracic aneurysms. Dr. Weiss has further expertise in heart valve surgery including minimally invasive aortic mitral and tricuspid valve repair/replacement and trans catheter approaches to valvular heart disease.  Finally, as an adult cardiac surgeon, Dr. Weiss performs all complex cardiac surgery procedures including reoperative surgery, coronary artery bypass grafting and heart transplantation.

Continued Leadership

As a recognized expert in diseases of the thoracic aorta, valvular heart disease, heart transplantation, and clinical outcomes research, Dr. Weiss completed a post-doctoral research fellowship in cardiac surgery at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD; has published over 70 peer reviewed journal articles and has given over 80 presentations at national and international scientific meetings. He also received a Master of Public Health degree from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2009 with a concentration in epidemiology and biostatistics. He is a member of the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha and received the prestigious John L. Cameron Award for technical excellence in Surgery during his time at Johns Hopkins.
